No, it's better. It's growing, not like it is here, but naturally. It was bad for a little while there after that EMP. You see that pyramid in the sky? It helps manage the atmosphere of this planet. It got bad when it went down, and it rapidly caused problems around the world. I think, though I'm not a scientist myself, that it means that no matter what improvement we've made, the world still has a lot of healing to do. It probably also means that it was more than just a few hundred years ago that things were very, very bad.

As it is, everyone fits into cities.

For better or worse. I'd say for worse. This world doesn't understand finding the resources to care for everyone, even when it seems like they should be available.
