oversight: ([-] not happy)

[ There is something to grab at least — not some ephemeral being that might disappear in a puff of smoke upon contact — but this monster is also grabbing back. It's massive hand wraps around Dean's wrist, grip vice-like and unrelenting, and with no effort at all it drags the man from the pit, pulling along with him all the souls hanging on, whether there to drag Dean down or rely on him to haul them up.

Once out of the hole, he's dangled like a fishing lure high off the ground, the height difference nearly two-fold between them. Even if Dean's feet wanted to reach the ground, he would have to descend six feet to get there. Below, the bodies that had come with him all slough off, writhing and wailing along the ground, drowning in despair and anguish, skin and bones and eyes all turned away.

The light all around is blinding, the intensity nothing short of ethereal by comparison. There's nothing more here to see outside the monster who never seems to gain any definition or detail compared to its surroundings. Like a black hole with two deceptively understanding red eyes, it's void extends impossibly, sucking light and air and hope out of this space.

In his other arm, outstretched what might as well be a mile away, Blake hangs, too, but by his neck. The massive hand is closed around it and he's scraping for release, face contorted, mouth open in silent protest. He hasn't given up — he's still viciously fighting for his life — but by comparison the battle seems impossibly against his favor.

You would make the choice?

[ The monster squeezes and Blake's body stiffens perceptively. ]

Him or them?

[ The bodies on the ground cry for help, a cacophony of prayers to be saved, hope if chorus to be chosen. Across from him, eyes wide and filled with desperation and edged with tears, Blake is shaking his head as best he can. ]
