There's no immediate threat, at least that he can see. If there was, well. He clearly doesn't know everything that's possible here, but he does know that if it comes to it, he can either defend himself with lethal force, or else he'll just be the one to go, and, hey, it's still an ending he could see for himself.
Amos buries that deep, deep down because he intrinsically knows Naomi and Holden would hate it. They may not be here right now, he may never see them again, but they would hate it, and more than anything, he needs to hold on to that. The option stays in his back pocket - he hasn't survived as long as he has without at least always keeping it available - but absolutely nothing about Kyna has hinted he'll ever have to go there.
If he's going to feel what she's feeling, then he'll at least know for sure.
If she's going to feel what he feels, though, then... shit. Letting people get close has been. A rarity. Almost nobody has been let all the way in. He has his people, he's close to them, would die for them, and even then, nobody's really, really seen who he is.
