He watches warily as the other man breathes through what is obviously pain, his eyes rather wide and frankly alarmed at his behavior, before John holds his hand up for him to investigate more closely.

"If that's how it works, I'd rather do things the old-fashioned way, personally," he observes, hesitating a moment before sitting a little more solidly on his bar stool once more.

He gestures vaguely at John's face, indicating the rest of the cuts and bruising he's got going on, as he inquires, "Are you going to...?"

He isn't sure that it's wise, frankly, given his initial reaction, but he supposes that it is John's choice in the end.
