She's being so reasonable, so cautious. It makes John want to scream, internally. John studies her in the dim light of he alleyway and remembers saying goodbye to her over and over, as he walked into danger, then saying goodbye for a different reason.

John thinks, I could save you time by telling you why you should leave me.

Elizabeth is guilt incarnate, and she doesn't even know. She doesn't even know that he's already failed her, and John hates himself for it, and she should hate him for it.

Instead, he says:

"Maybe I don't want help."

Maybe he doesn't. Maybe Elizabeth just needs to understand he doesn't deserve it. Maybe Elizabeth just needs to be as angry as he is, about everything.
