[ The first thing Bucky does is make the bed. He isn't sure why. It isn't a nice bed, and it doesn't feel like it belongs to him. It's a funny thing about safehouses— they never feel safe. But he notices something in how his fingers catch, doing this regular work, so after he is finished folding the sheets over his blanket, US Army style, he sits at the foot of the bed and starts looking at his arm. His left arm, the one that isn't flesh. They must have done some adjustments on it when he was under, and he hadn't noticed while he was drugged.
He sits there, for a good five minutes, moving his metal fingers, trying to figure out what's been changed. ]
002. dreams
[ It looks like a newsreel, but the dirt is brown and red and the noises are all in color. Only the sky is grey. Bombs fall out of biplanes, and smoke, and the smell of burning oil. There are corpses on the ground wearing pea-soup colored helmets that didn't help enough and pieces of rooftop paving the street. You can't see them, but you know the enemy is nearby, waiting like steel for flint.
Only two figures are clearly visible. The one is dressed in the American flag, and somehow, the whites in his costume aren't stained. The other is Bucky, wearing blue underwear over red tights and a small mask that doesn't do much to obscure his identity. He's younger, maybe seventeen, and he's carrying a Thompson sub-machine gun. ]

[ He is only a few miles from the safehouse when he sees the yellow irises flash from the alleyway. It can't be one of the giant monsters he's heard about— this one is only the size of a Manahattan dumpster.
Which is still a lot bigger than Bucky.
He looks to the person next to him, who he knows is one of his fellow Displaced. ]
Please tell me you are packing heat.
[ Bucky just got here and they've taken all his guns. ]
