We did make it up to smart devices, but not past touch screens.

in the end, it wouldn't have made a difference. what broke the back of modern technology had been the fact that nearly every tiny piece of was made in specialised factories, and abroad of course, for cheap, and then assembled in yet another country, in yet another facility. impossible to fix without the necessary compartments, and those were impossible to get to.

We had minor neuroprosthetics – cochlear implants come to mind – but nothing that can hold a torch to the ones we were involuntarily given here. They were sci-fi staples of course, and I'm sure someone was working on something even back then.

it's not... a question. for all that she is lacking in the empathy department, she is aware that to straight up ask would be almost equal to asking if angela had gotten one of her own back home, and that strikes her as a little too invasive for a first conversation. as much as she is gathering information here, this world is also a new kind of freedom. a life beyond the base.
