FEBRUARY CR MEME
Happy February, Larkers, and happy Valentine's Day! 🥰 We wanted to give a quick rundown to players new and old, especially since we set up a lot of directions for player plots for the next while! We expect that these will be running for a good bit of time.
So, here we go! A rundown on where to start with plotting:
◉ Our big catchup tool is our The Story So far page! No one needs to have this memorized, and hopefully our phrasing makes it easier to CTRL+F exactly what you need! The bullet points should cover the big meat, and it's up to you if you want to click to read further on anything.
◉ Check out our Setting Page for any ideas you might need about the world at large!
◉ We also recommend that you check out our JOBS PAGE and LOCATION PAGE to get the brain moving. As a quick note: everyone can add and create new locations for New Amsterdam (and, eventually, develop other megacities)! We'll always review them and reach out to you if any changes need to be made.
◉ Our monthly calendars are also a place where we do minimal worldbuilding, and it's where the mods leave monthly messages to our playerbase.
◉ The arrival log will be tomorrow! We're still solidifying some of the basics around it, but it's a smaller batch of newbies so it'll be less involved overall. We're using it as a means of creating some pop culture for the world, so keep an eye out for that!
◉ Remember that mention of player plots a few bullet points ago? We opened up fast travel to offer a lot of new threading opportunities, and we have a lot of artifacts and relics available. Newcomers can also get their hands on some relics, too—so feel free to ask around if this is (or even isn't!) their jam. Read the rundown here on our aftermath post!
◈ As a note, we've applied a little change to the relics so that they will eventually begin to resonate with the Displaced, and the relics will glow with one of seven colors: red, gold, blue, indigo, black (it'll turn glossy and obsidian), white, or orange. This will occur after holding on to the relic for 1 IC month.
◉ You'll notice that there's a section on the aftermath post called Looking Forward. We would like players to declare interest on what direction they'd like to take, but plotting and how to pursue it should begin to take place here and on the Plot Engagement post. Get those juices flowing!
◉ We also have a charity auction going up at the end of the month! Jenna, our Caroline Forbes (gasping) player, will be putting it up. The big playable section will be a dating auction! We've also worked with Jenna to pepper in some NPCs to help expand on some information. An OOC plotting post should be going up about this before the event so that everyone can get involved.
◉ Finally, since this is new information: the mods will be scarce the final weekend of the month! Only Court will be around. 💦 We're going to try to set up the calendar before we're all gone, but this is a head's up that things might be a little delayed while Alison, Veronica, and Jenny are off at a con! We'll get everything setup as soon as possible early in the month of March.

SUMMARY OF LAST MONTH: Olivia arrived and met people and started making friends! She then went to New Cairo and wasn't too happy about it. She's still thinking about things in a "me vs them" kind of way and is wary of people, despite, y'know, liking them.
PLANS FOR THE NEXT MONTH:
AREAS OF INTEREST: Olivia is a very plot oriented person, so I want to figure out something to do with her around that. 🤔 Her main interest is figuring out who the people who drop them off are. However, I think she's not quite ready to talk with other people ICly about that yet, so I'm going to focus this month on building CR and settling in socially!
HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES: Olivia has been around the safehouse so people have seen her around and it's possible that they've had a brief friendly chatty conversation. Pre-event she was also exploring the city and anyone who waved at her probably got a wave back. She was also in New Cairo for the event so New Cairo people would have seen her.
OVERALL GOALS: As I mentioned in areas of interest I'm mainly looking for her to get CR this month. I'd like to build CR with people she's already met but I'm also open to new CR! Basically I want her to become more invested in the Displaced as a whole so she can get over her trust issues and start opening up about her IC ambitions.

JOB: I... thiiiiiiiink he's working as a bouncer at Red Wings? Maybe? Ideally that, and he's looking to pick up some extra cash to get out of the Safehouse so might be trying his hand at fight club soon.
SUMMARY OF LAST MONTH: Wash went to New Oslo! Not much happened for him, though... he's in pretty much the same place he was the month before, training and generally being paranoid and wanting to get his own place but at least he's realized he needs to loosen up a little and make more connections being here on his own or he's going to snap.
PLANS FOR THE NEXT MONTH: I have a new canonmate coming in, Carolina, and some shit might hit the fan because of that -- he's been going by David to hide his identity and generally being very private and locked down because he's worried about his identity as Washington getting out and Sharkface trying to kill him... that concern might become reality but it's hypothetical so my plans are the vague roll-with-it sort. I am desperate for him to make more and deeper CR, and have an open log planned with various starters around the city and some dreamscape stuff!
AREAS OF INTEREST: forgive my partial copy/paste but I didn't make much headway last month:
- Wash is paranoid and generally distrusting to start with and he's just been kidnapped and any of you could be a plant AND he's also not used to socializing... so I'd like to play around with the empathy bonding as a way to gauge how he's sizing people up/speeding up his trust formation.
- Arguing over AI and the choices the Displaced have previously made because omg. Still haven't gotten into that metaplot!
- Finding someone savvy with the tech of this world, so he can figure some stuff out about how the implant works (if they're being tracked/monitored, especially).
- Someone to practice using powers with him.
- I'd still love if a PC he'd be more likely to believe could give him the rundown on Morningstar.
HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES: Workout buddies, Safehouse residents, Red Wings workers... soon Fight Club folks too can say they've seen him around/caught him training/fighting/being a terrible insomniac/notice his nightmares/etc.
OVERALL GOALS: Just more CR! I'm going to try and tag around more to see if he clicks with anyone because he reeeeeeeally needs people. Folks to look for as cool to tag would be much appreciated, I am very shy.

JOB: Picking up shifts at Red Wings as a bar back or bouncer, depending on the day.
SUMMARY OF LAST MONTH: Jon was new, and then went to Everest. He has gotten more comfortable using the neural net, has been trying to use it to come to grips with the world around him, and has been told by a few people that a younger version of him was in New Amsterdam in the past and that Sansa was there too.
PLANS FOR THE NEXT MONTH: Trying to get more situated in the city itself and make more CR. On the OOC side, I would also like to do more with the existing event than I've done already, since it looks like not much else is planned for the rest of this month. Do you have something that it would be cool for me to hit up?
I got into the Everest log pretty late because of a couple of medical procedures, so his Everest top level is here if you'd like to check it out and tag him (I'm especially keen to play something out with the last prompt, a discussion of compassion and nonviolence, since he's a compassionate person who is extremely violent). He's also here on the aftermath. There, he's especially looking for people to go poking around through the gates with, if you'd like to do some travel: I'm interested in him checking out some of the other locations, because in canon, he occasionally dreams of seeing the world but has literally never left the region he grew up in until right before his pull point. You can also talk about medieval things with him at that link, as he tries to figure out why his world is still stuck in that period after thousands of years.
On any of the stuff from the most recent event, I will try to do rapid turnaround on tags so things can progress quickly.
AREAS OF INTEREST: The learning curve for him is very high, so thus far, most plot-related network posts that have gone up probably just make him feel stupid: he lacks a lot of common cultural context that contemporary characters would take for granted and wouldn’t understand a lot of references. That should get better over time, but it's definitely affecting his first weeks in the setting! Any face-to-face discussions of plot stuff are especially welcome (and, of course, some are ongoing). He can also commiserate with other fish who are especially out of water.
That said, he'd be interested in:HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES:OVERALL GOALS: For right now, developing CR, finding a niche, finding a plot hook that interests him long-term. Perhaps finding a roommate. Jon is around 23 and is a nice guy, so he's not hard to get to know in a superficial way, but he can be kind of a loner who will not easily open up on certain subjects. I would like to work on that over time. Obviously, the dreams mechanic and empathy bonds and chest objects can help, but since he's still really just getting started, nothing like that has quite come up yet.
ANYTHING ELSE: A handful of characters -- I'm not actually sure who or how many -- got info from the previous Jon about his birth reveal. For the time being, for a bunch of reasons, I don't want my Jon to get this reveal -- but I might be more into it later on down the road.
While no other players have brought it up to me yet, not having addressed this on my permissions post or the last CR meme was still a huge omission on my part, so I’ve updated it to cover this situation. I also added a cool Meadowlark section to Jon’s info post (aka More Than You Ever Wanted To Know About Jon Snow)... but in all honesty, everything in that section is here in this comment except some pic references for his game canon shorter hair.

SUMMARY OF LAST MONTH: He came to the game, said yay as he got out of quarantine, got recruited to go to Mount Everest, and then got kidnapped and taken to New Cairo. Helped explore, and discover things, and now he is really into the mystery of things, digging in good.
PLANS FOR THE NEXT MONTH: Dig into things more, try to read anything he can on the history and archaeology of the time, share notes and talk with others, especially those with experience. Spar and work.
AREAS OF INTEREST: Looking for more chances for him to learn more about the world, get involved with plots, and generally sink his teeth into this new situation, a chance for him to show his skills as an investigator and more chances to explore his Hope power, as well.
HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES: I love logging stuff, but I am totally up for handwaving when needed, especially at his job. I am okay with people saying they met him, or he served them drinks.
OVERALL GOALS: ICly, to let him get involved in learning about the world and investigating, finding out what he believes here. OOCly: To have fun and throw him even more into the deep end of things.

SUMMARY OF LAST MONTH: Quentin arrived with Kenzi and they managed not to freak each other out too much. He was reunited with his OTP Eliot and then ended up kidnapped again to New Rio. While there he helped solve a few of the puzzles with his group and reached out to other people to figure it out together. Quentin brought up on Klaus' post interest in finding out about Ball and the people who worship them to see if gods/fables/myths from this world are actually real. TO BE CONTINUED. He also got an artifact.
PLANS FOR THE NEXT MONTH: Quentin will continue to settle in but he is definitely going to follow up with the Ball/worshippers situation. He is someone who has a lot of experience with faith, mythology, gods, history, etc., all of it being real and the concept of destiny so he's going to continue observing or researching that depending on how it will happen IC or what he's allowed to do. He will also make friends and try to go RAH RAH TEAM UP at times. He talked about a potential in-person town hall for the Displaced as an idea but not sure if follow through yet. He doesn't know how to use his powers yet.
AREAS OF INTEREST: Quentin's strengths are involving research and knowledge gathering, and he's already starting to poke into why things are happening and what the meaning of it is. He's also very interested in trying to unify the Displaced even though he's a naive fellow who hopes for the best. Basically he is all in on the mysteries of this place and wants to know the Whys. Also I have to find a reason for him to figure out his powers.
HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES: Quentin was in New Rio so anyone who was there, he was probably friendly. He also posted about the puzzles and ruins, so if your character would have talked to him but didn't respond, just lmk. He's not leaving the safehouse yet until they get enough money to be somewhere else, so he's around.
OVERALL GOALS: Mystery! Friendship! A second chance at life! Nerding out!

AREAS OF INTEREST: I'd like to have Adora get involved in something that uses her background as a Horde soldier! Additionally, she'd definitely be interested in trying to get to the bottom of them not being able to go home. And friends! She's from Portal Reality Weirdness, so she'll mostly be sticking to Catra, but Adora could also use more friends. Especially ones who can nudge those 'You don't have to carry the world on your shoulders' lessons that she's forgotten thanks to the portal.
HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES: If your character encounters Catra, there's a good chance they'll run into Adora too. /shrug emoji Let's do something with it!

SUMMARY OF LAST MONTH: In addition to welcoming her dead surrogate-dad to the city, Rey worked with Wei Wuxian to arrange the trip to Everest that culminated in some people being kidnapped and the gates being activated.
PLANS FOR THE NEXT MONTH: Rey is canon updating to about 2/3rds through The Rise of Skywalker. She will be ghosting her boyfriend and hermiting outside of the city in order to keep herself away from people for spoiler reasons. In general, she's filled with doubt and very scared of herself right now. Please let me know if you would like to avoid spoilers.
AREAS OF INTEREST: Right now I'm most interested in having somebody come visit Rey the hermit in OOC March and try to persuade her to return to a normal life before she gets fired. I'm happy to do whatever is needed to facilitate people finding where she's hiding. Maybe she left a map like Luke ok.
HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES: None at the moment!
OVERALL GOALS: Get Rey back into town! See if Rey can keep her job! Force Rey to reconcile the dark parts of herself and confront an uncertain future! Maybe murder Kylo Ren! She'll get back on the plot train after that.

AREAS OF INTEREST: Faith considers herself truly irredeemable garbage so anyone who could maybe think better of her than that would be nice. She could use positive influences. Similarly, anyone who wants her to absolutely sabotage any attempts for them to help her would be welcome. Plot-wise, I'm interested in getting Faith in the political realm by way of being shady. She might try to ... sell the Displaced out to the UNA or something for information. If anyone is interested in that???
HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES: Faith works at a Casino, feel free to have seen her there. She also hangs out at the Red Wings bar despite not working there. She lived at the safehouse way longer than was appropriate.
OVERALL GOALS: Faith's primary goal is getting her powers back, so she's pursuing information about the warehouse and who owned it currently.

SUMMARY OF LAST MONTH: Last month was a rough one considering her had just arrived, didn't have time to get her shit together and then was immediately kidnapped AGAIN and dropped off in New Cairo. She got sand in places she thought it'd neve come out of, discovered what her power is, and that was about it.
PLANS FOR THE NEXT MONTH: Finding a way to make money, maybe finding a place to live that isn't the safehouse, doing some reading up on world history.
AREAS OF INTEREST: Honestly, Kenzi is just kind of a go with the flow and get into whatever comes her way kind of character. If she makes friends with someone that is persuing a certain thing she'll probably help out with that.
HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES: She can probably be found at the safehous for the time being, as well the fighting pits and Red Wings.

PLANS FOR THE NEXT MONTH: show up! outside of being upset about being kidnapped and the fact that this future!earth is definitely not her future!earth, both of her castmates are significantly less shot than she remembers them being. this is both very good (wash isn't suffering from brain damage!) and very bad (sharkface probably still wants to kill her if he identifies her!) so starting to address that is definitely in the plans. otherwise, i'm hoping to get her established with some other people she can vaguely trust enough to talk to, so her life is not just being wash's high strung shadow.
AREAS OF INTEREST: carolina likes to fight things. eventually getting her some direction with this is going to be helpful for her sanity. (this may turn into her trying to become a cop down the road because she loves structure and it would give her some degree of inside information but ????)
HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES: not sure about these yet, but i'm happy to work things out and/or find a way to pick up any cr that got started on the tdm!
OVERALL GOALS: carolina needs to: 1. not let sharkface kill wash; 2. establish some general cr; 3. get mad about people hating on ai, who have clearly done nothing wrong.

Ginia is Ephemera's friend and roommate, cares greatly about him, and very aware he wants to murder the people responsible for killing his family (though she doesn't know it's Wash and Carolina). She also likes Wash and thinks revenge murdering someone in a city with the tech to bring people back to life is a dumbfuck idea and would try to stop Ephemera.

PLANS FOR THE NEXT MONTH: Bellamy is coming into game tired and emotionally wiped. He just narrowly avoided the end of the world (again) and thinks Clarke is dead, whoops. So basically, he's going to have to work through that stuff and try to be normal!!!
AREAS OF INTEREST: Bellamy has spent most of his life in survival and crisis mode, both literally and figuratively. He's spent his whole life living with limited resources, so being in a place where everything is so varied and abundant in comparison is going to be wild for him. He's also not used to megacities so there's going to be some culture shock. This is also the first time in years he'll be able to just sit and breathe, so working through all that will be interesting! Bell also tends to adopt people and has this almost pathological need to help the people he considers "his", so I'm sure that won't become a mess at any point.

JOB: Right now he's making his living in the fighting ring, but because his markings are so sensitive and he doesn't have his abilities to nullify physical attacks the most basic of hits can really do damage to him. SUMMARY OF LAST MONTH: He went to New Oslo and overall he's getting out there and meeting people, for better or worse. Most of his progression has been CR-wise and less meta plot wise tbh!
PLANS FOR THE NEXT MONTH: I really want to mess around with the traveling system now. Fenris will probably have to get over the gate thing seeming weird and magic but once he does he'll want to move around so he doesn't feel like a trapped rat!
AREAS OF INTEREST: Again, definitely travel things! Underground things as well, or generally causes he'd be into. Helping the poor, fucking over the rich that are fucking over the poor, etc. Also people who don't take him seriously because they somehow end up being the closest to him.
HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES: He hangs out at Red Wings a lot drinking, can be seen in the fighting rings, probably not very approachable BUT most times if someone approaches him he won't ignore a greeting.
OVERALL GOALS: I really want to focus on CR related things, not to say I'm not interested in the main plot, but at the moment I want him to make more connections, positive or negative!

PLANS FOR THE NEXT MONTH: Definitely mostly getting this guy acclimated into this crazy new world. 9S comes from an Earth in the very, very distant future where humans no longer inhabit it and has been ravaged by war for several millennia, so everything about life in game will be new and unknown to him. The adjustment period will be ... something, for sure. Someone pls help this boy out.

PLANS FOR THE NEXT MONTH: Just seeing what I can see at this point! Apologies for vagaries but really my notion at present is just to see what kinda CR he can make, first and foremost.
AREAS OF INTEREST: THE RELIC TALK LOOKED INTERESTING; the Exarch is a historian/researcher, and though obviously all of his present knowledge comes from different worlds, he's certainly the inquisitive type. He'd want to know what's happening in this world, why it's happening, and most importantly--how he can help (though it may take some time for the stress over matters left unfinished to settle).
- He is known to have an excellent singing voice, and that might be an interesting hobby/path to pursue.
- As his name (which is actually just a title) implies, he's a leader--but it's a position he took up by necessity, not desire. More precisely, he's a caretaker; he likes to look after and encourage people, in his grandpa cat way. If that's something a character needs, he's a good candidate.
- Again, big nerd. Enjoys books not only about factual information (history, technology, etc) but also heroic tales of big adventures and righteous causes.
- Pretty fond of righteous causes generally.
- Will be wearing a hoodie and hiding his tail, uncomfortably, in his jeans ... but feel free to intrude on that. Obscuring his furry features will be default, though he is in fact a cat person. (The crystallized arm is more difficult to fully hide, and he probably won't really try)
HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES: He has no real position and thus no established habits/haunts yet, but--even with his hoodie up and the drawstrings pulled real tight--he is the kind of person that stands out. Sunlight always glinting off that crystal. He's also quite short, so it's easy to literally run into him in a crowd.

HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES: he's still hanging around at the Safehouse and takes advantage of the free food situation a lot (and has really come around to the idea of hoarding things at this point tbh).
OVERALL GOALS: finding more CR for him, finding a good place for him where he can get involved and do more? I'd also like him to like... move out of the Safehouse. He'd probably do better if he can find a roommate (and then you get the added bonus of trying to coexist in the same space as him rofl). He's not entirely a teaching project though, honestly! He's willing to help out with stuff. He's from 2020 where he's taken from his world, so he's reasonably tech savvy so figuring out how to use the neural implant or play games and things like that haven't been too challenging for him. So in return he's willing to help out with things like that. He also has other knowledge that's potentially useful at random times?

PLANS FOR THE NEXT MONTH: diana is going to spend this month figuring out the significance (if any!) behind the artifacts everyone nabbed. per this thread about relics, she's going to hang on to the one auspicious knot figurine she lifted and eventually realize that it has Significance somehow.
AREAS OF INTEREST: diana is a huge nerd about history/art/culture and i'm always down to have her talk to other characters about that! she also does some vigilante work at night, so if anyone ever wants to team up to stop some crime or needs some righteous muscle for a fight, hmu.
HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES: anything in the gallery, fancy art parties, shopping, working out, training with powers/hand-to-hand combat, crime fighting, pretty much any first-time meeting. diana drops by the safehouse fairly regularly and goes about town often, so she's pretty visible and easy to meet!
OVERALL GOALS: i'm always down for deep friendship, crime-fighting buddies, and found family things! please hmu for any of these.

JOB: He is the associate curator to the gallery he works at, having fake moved up thanks to Kovacs previous influence. His boss is a blowhard artist, but he's also hardly in the gallery itself. Klaus both does the gallery thing and runs errands.
SUMMARY OF LAST MONTH: Klaus went to Everest! And then with everyone's collective help, they activated the gates and he is now at less than half his strength and without most vampire perks. He is *not happy.
PLANS FOR THE NEXT MONTH: Adjusting. Traveling. He wants to properly investigate/find/kill Johanne and any clone of Johanne. Being a father. Stumbling around relationships like the stunted man child he is.
AREAS OF INTEREST: Klaus needs a lady to casually sleep with. It's canon. When he is under a hardship, he paints and sleeps with an ill-conceived lady. Sometimes one that's tried to kill him and his family! Klaus will also be painting more. Generally looking for answers and is strictly metaplot man most of the time. He is very active in answers. Also, looking to continue and deepen CR and give him new allies. He needs gym friends! And sparring partners! And possibly people to bite because he's going to discover synthetic blood El provides is not as useful in keeping his strength up. Sort of like, animal blood in TVD. And... he needs a roommate. Live with him! He may be side questing with Tim to New Beijing.
HANDWAVED CR OPPORTUNITIES: Klaus goes to museums, frequents Redwings, is generally a sociable creature. He will be going to the gym more. He will probably travel every weekend - weekend trips places. He also went to Everest and made a very public and drunken network post about their situation and the gates. And their power.
OVERALL GOALS: Keep Klaus moving, keep him engaged, generally keep him affable. Maybe doing some self destructive things because he has been good. Like, scarily good because his daughter is around and he died and he has nothing to worry about. Had, anyway.
